Bensheim: Guide


Overview


Bensheim is a city in Hesse, Germany. It is located at the edge of the Odenwald mountains while at the same time having an open view over the Rhine plain. With a population of 39,642 (2005) it is the biggest cíty of the Bergstraße district. It is accessed by routes German route 3|3 and German route 47|47 and autobahns A5 autobahn|A5 and A67 autobahn|A67.

Industry


Economically it is in an area where wine grapes are grown extensively. Many small businesses in the areas such as electronics, software development or services can be found.

Additionally, the city has also attracted factories/offices of former known as Siemens, Tyco International, Akzo Nobel, Suzuki and .

Bensheim-Auerbach - Fürstenlager State Park


The landgraves once used the ”Fürstenlager” near Bensheim-Auerbach as a spa. It is an artistic combination of simple buildings clustered like a village around the Good Well in the middle of a picturesque landscaped park. Like many territorial overlords of their day, its owners sought the peace of a rural idyll far removed from the pomp and circumstance of court.

To the West, Bensheim borders Lorsch and Einhausen; to the North Zwingenberg; to the East Lautertal; and to the South Heppenheim.

It is also known for its good traffic connections to other nearby cities. In the North Darmstadt and Frankfurt; in the East Worms, Germany|Worms; and in the South Heidelberg, Mannheim and Ludwigshafen am Rhein|Ludwigshafen are all within an hour's drive.

The city is divided into 9 Stadtteile or Ortsteile. The largest Ortsteil is Auerbach. Others are Schwanheim, Fehlheim, Gronau, Zell, Wilmshausen, Schönberg, Langwaden and Hochstädten.
