Esslingen am Neckar is a city in the Stuttgart Region of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, capital of the Esslingen (district)|District of Esslingen. Population 91,239 (2002), geographical location . It is located on the river Neckar, 10 km from Stuttgart city center.
History
;Abbot Fulrad from Saint Denis Basilica|Saint-Denis (near Paris, France), the chaplain of Pippin the Younger|Pippin and Charlemagne. He bequeths the church sixth cell upon the river Neckar to his monastery Saint-Denis. He also brought the bones of Saint Vitalis to Esslingen, which made it a target for pilgrimage and led to its growth.

;866 : The market rights are certified
;949-953 : Esslingen appears in the possession of Liudolf, Duke of Swabia
;1229 : Esslingen receives city rights
;1298 : Esslingen is first mentioned as an imperial city
;1526 : First protestantism|protestant priest employed in Esslingen
;1803 : Esslingen loses its independence as an imperial city and becomes part of the Duchy of Württemberg

Hochschule Esslingen
Esslingen is also home to a famous and well established University of Applied Science. The Esslingen University of Applied Sciences (or Hochschule Esslingen in German) is famous for it's mechanical engineering and automotive programs. The university also offers some Masters programs in English.
