Fröndenberg: Guide

}
Fröndenberg is a small city in the district Unna (district)|Unna, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, located at the River Ruhr. Neighbour cities are Unna, Wickede, Menden, Schwerte and the municipality Holzwickede. As of 2005 it has a population of 22,895.

History

The city as such is relatively new: it grew out of the reorganization in 1902 whereby the former independent villages Stift, Westick and village Froendenberg melted into the bigger village community of Fröndenberg. It obtained city status in 1952. The oldest record of the name `Frundeberg` is the papal document by Pope Celestine III|Coelestin III from 1197.

The present day administrative infrastructure goes back to 1968 when Altendorf, Ardey, Bausenhagen, Dellwig, Frohnhausen, Frömern, Langschede, Neimen, Ostbüren, Stentrop, Strickherdicke, Warmen and the city Fröndenberg were "unified", as well as to 1969 when the village Bentrop became part of Fröndenberg.
