Seligenstadt: Guide



Seligenstadt is a town in the Offenbach (district)|district of Offenbach, in Hesse, Germany. It is situated on the left bank of the Main, 15 km northwest of Aschaffenburg, and 22 km southeast of Frankfurt.

Seligenstadt have three diestricts: Seligenstadt, Klein-Welzheim and Froschhausen

Geography


The cities next to Seligenstadt are in the northe Hainburg, in the east Karlstein in Bayern, in the southeast Mainhausen, in the south Babenhausen and in the west Rodgau. Seligenstadt is one of thirteen cities in the district of Offenbach.

History


The city ist one of the oldest one in Germany. The first notice was in year 815. Seligenstadt was foundet by Einhard. At this time it was called Obermühlheim.

Main sights


Seligenstadt have very much old houses in the inner city. But the main sight is the Palatium built by Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor|Frederich II are very interresting, too. In the district Klein Welzheim is a very great castle built in water.

Seligenstadt has two sister cities:

Triel-sur-Seine (since 1967)

Heel (since 1972)
