Szklarska Poręba: Guide
Szklarska Poręba (German language|German: Schreiberhau) is a town in Dolny Śląsk Voivodship in southwestern Poland. It is a popular ski resort.
An important regional ans national centre for mountain hiking, Mountain biking|cycling and skiing, Szklarska Poręba is situated in the valley of the Kamienna, between Karkonosze|Karkonosze Mountains and Jizera Mountains, 1,900 ft. above sea level, 16 miles southwest from Jelenia Góra. The ski resort in Jelenia Góra County is growing in popularity as an alternative to the Alps, thanks to wide range of both Alpine skiing|Alpine and Nordic skiing facilities.
The town used to be connected via railway line to Tanvald in Bohemia. However, the cross border traffic was abolished in 1945. The railway connection to Jelenia Góra plays a minor role since the scale of mining industry in the town's area decreased.
European route E65 and No. 3 Highway pass through the town on their common fragment, providing a convenient road connection throughout the year.
