Room information All rooms are of a reasonable size, in relation to their type of occupancy. All rooms are centrally heated and include adequate storage for clothes and luggage by means of wardrobes and chest of drawers. All rooms are either fully en suite or, alternatively, have a hand basin with hot and cold running water, with mirrors and shaving points. Area information Alston is reputed to be the highest Market town in the UK and is noted on the route of one of the 10 best scenic drives (the A686). The Victoria Inn is situated right in the centre of Alston town offering an ideal overnight stay for all. The ´C2C´ cycle routes and the Pennine Way walk are right on the doorstep of Alston. Picturesque, varied and unspoilt countryside surrounds. Nearby attractions include: Seven Sisters Waterfall (500 metres) - picturesque natural water feature. South Tynedale Railway (500 metres) - this narrow-gauge steam railway offers a ride through the beautiful scenery of the South Tyne valley. Nenthead (7 km / 4.5 miles) - this 18th century purpose built industrial village was one of the earliest of its kind in Britain. Famous for its mining heritage, many miles of mines are still accessible today. Travel information Alston town is situated right on the cross roads of the A686, A689 and B6277 roads. The Victoria Inn is easily located right in the very centre of the main Front Street (opposite the Post Office) on the B6277.
By Car: From Newcastle City (A1) / Newcastle Airport: - Take the A69 west past Corbridge and Hexham. - Approximately 9.5 km (6 miles) past Hexham, take the A686 exit sign posted for Langley Castle and Alston. - Pass through Whitfield and continue on to Alston. - Upon entering Alston you pass a petrol station on your right. Take the next turn left into Alston town centre (B6277). - Traveling up the hill on to a cobbled street, bearing right, the Victoria Inn is located 50 metres on your right. From Penrith (Junction 40, M6): - From the M6 motorway island head east onto the A66 to the 1st island. - Take the 2nd exit and you are now on the A686 Penrith to Alston road. - Passing through Langwathby and Melmerby, proceed over Hartside top. - You will enter Alston over a stone bridge, passing a petrol station on your left and the Blue Bell pub on your right. Take the next right hand turn into Alston town centre (B6277). - Travelling up the hill onto a cobbled street, bearing right, the Victoria Inn is located 50 metres on your right. From the East A1 / M1 Scotch Corner: - From the A1 Scotch Corner exit, head east on the A66 towards Brough and Penrith. - Approximately 19 km (12 miles) further on, turn right onto the B6277 sign posted for Bernard Castle. - Continue on pass Bernard Castle, through Middleton-in-Teesdale over the moors and onto Alston. - Upon entering Alston down a hill you will past the Primary school on your left and shortly afterward a right hand turn towards Nenthead. - Proceeding down the hill passing the fire station on your right, The Victoria Inn is located 50 metres on your left hand side. |
