Ballater (Aberdeenshire, Scotland on the River Dee, Aberdeenshire|River Dee, (see Royal Deeside}, just east of the Cairngorm Mountains. It is a centre for hiking|hikers and is known for its spring (hydrosphere)|spring water, once said to cure scrofula. The Victoria Barracks is used by the Royal Guard for nearby Balmoral Castle.
