Stone from the quarry was used in the construction of London Bridge (Lake Havasu City)|London Bridge, Liverpool Cathedral and Dunrobin Castle. A Government Radio Receiving Station was in operation between 1940 and 1986. First town in North of Scotland to have electricity thanks to its wool industry. Local football (soccer)|football club was founded in 1879 and moved to present stadium, Dudgeon Park, in 1922.
Home to 'Capaldi's Ice Cream' shop. Famous throughout the North of Scotland for some of the finest ice cream in Scotland It has recently been taken over by a Ross-shire baker and the shine has been taken off its reputation.
