Holmes Chapel: Guide



Known formerly as Church Hulme, Holmes Chapel is a village in central Cheshire, in Congleton (borough)|Congleton borough. Population (United Kingdom Census 2001|2001 census): 5,669. It is located at the junction of the A50 and A54, close to the M6 motorway. According to the Index of Deprivation, the village ranks as the 18th least deprived ward (politics)|ward in the United Kingdom (out of 8,414). Holmes Chapel has rail links to Manchester and Crewe, making it a good base for commuting. Swettenham Meadows nature reserve lies 2.5 miles (4km) east of the village and Goostrey lies to the north.

The village has a number pubs including The George and Dragon, The Red Lion, The Swan and a Wine Bar. There is also a shopping precinct with a supermarket, clothes shop, Indian restaurant, off licence, betting shop, estate agents, a chemist and a library, which has recently had an extension. The village has one secondary school, Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School.
