Ticehurst: Guide

Ticehurst is a village and civil parish in the Rother distinct of East Sussex, England. The village is about 40 miles (60 km) south of London. In the centre of Ticehurst there are a general village shop, a butcher, a hairdresser, an antiquarian book seller, a green grocer, a chemist, an Indian takeaway, a car repairer plus car sales, an estate agency, a bank, and two pubs. Further out, there are two more pubs and a hotel/golf course. It is about 3 miles (5 km) from Wadhurst, a larger village. To the north of the village, the land slopes down to Bewl Water.

There is a very active Village Club, which runs regular social events, and a monthly newsletter "News & Views" is produced by a team of volunteers.

The village is the headquarters of the Antiquarian Horological Society.

Ticehurst House hospital (now part of the Priory Group)is located in the village. Samuel Newington opened Ticehurst House in 1792 as a place dedicated to the care and treatment of psychiatric illness.

The 14th century parish church is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin.

There is a railway station nearby, at Wadhurst station.
